Yorkshire and the Humber has 290 of the 1,960 biomass heat boilers identified in a survey of England boilers conducted by the Renewable Energy Association, commissioned by the Forestry Commission, making the region top in the country for installations. Around 100 of the boilers are located in West Yorkshire and can be found in schools, town halls, listed buildings, community centres, holiday cottages, universities.
Examples of woodfuel heating installations in West Yorkshire:
Bradford City Hall – 500kW
Ilkley Town Hall – 100kW
Paddock House Farm (Wetherby) – 40kW
Height Gate Farm –
Keighley Furniture Project – 230kW
Devonshire Hall (University of Leeds) – 250kW

Woodfuel production
Treeworld Limited
White Rose Forest has been working with Treeworld Limited in securing grant funding from the CO2Sense Woodfuel Programme to purchase an Oxtrac skidder with forwarding trailer and road legal timber trailer with bolster body. This specialised low impact forestry equipment has meant that Treeworld are now able to manage their hard to access woodland and extract timber which will result in 8,000m3 of good quality virgin timber being sold into the woodfuel market over the next four years. If the woodfuel produced from this timber is used instead of fossil fuel, it will save 17,000 tonnes of CO2 over the next ten years.
